On Dirt, Elections, and Hypocrisy

Nearly a year ago, USA Today published an article cowritten by Cal Thomas, a conservative columnist, and Bob Beckel, a liberal Democratic strategist.  They talked about the 2008 election cycle, which had already begun even then, and how while character does matter, there are still some things that should be off limits.  Several things struck me as interesting.

My friend Vince pointed me to the newest xkcd comic this morning. Don't feel bad if you don't get it, it's really only funny if you do application development and other geeky things.

Books, books, and more books!

I've always loved books. A lot. It probably has a lot to do with the amount of time I spent as a child, sick in bed with nothing else to do. To me, the perfect use of a whole day, rainy or not, is curling up in a nice chair with a good book and some quiet music. These days, being the father of three kids, having one job that I do for money, and another that I do out of love of my Creator, my book time is precious and scarce. However, I've still accomplished a lot of reading. Today, I discovered a new web site for people like me, LibraryThing.

Gastronomic Cartography

I love food.  I also love computers and other technological things.  So, it's only natural that I would find a way to put the two together.  I started using Google's "My Maps" feature to map out my favorite places to eat.  The rules are simple - no chains or traditional "fast food," no pretentious artsy fartsy crap, just good eating.  Bonus points to places that serve up something tasty on the cheap.  Vince got in on the act, too.
