Antichrist

I had been reading the book of Daniel lately and found that the antichrist will be quite influential. I had thought at one time that Benjamin Netanyahu might be that man, but found out today that the antichrist will be unmarried and apparently be so devoted to war that he has no desire to. Netanyahu has been married three times.
Kings of the north and south will rise up against him and the book states that Egypt, Libya and Sudan will fall to him and apparently when rumors come that more will rise up from the north, he re-establishes his HQ in the central part of the country. I'm also wondering if the Palestinians will survive his reign. If he's trying to be seen as the savior that the Israelites wanted when Jesus was here, his lust for war and ridding their land of the ones that have been terrorising them for so long may spell the Palestinian's doom.
I caught a documentary on WEDU about the years when Clinton was trying to help find a peace between Barak and Arafat and his frustrations that all Arafat wanted was the Temple Mount. Barak was going to concede the Christian and Muslim parts of the Old City but Arafat wanted the site of where they believe Mohammed was given his vision and had risen into their version of heaven, being the same platform that Herod had added onto the temple area that Nehemiah and Ezra built. Clinton got Barak to agree to allowing the Palestinians to have the upper part of the temple mount where their Dome of the Rock resides, leaving the Jews the western wall, but there again, Arafat said no. He wanted all of the area without worrying about the Jews holding the base or any part of it. Clinton finally broke off relations with Arafat, understandably.
The antichrist will also mirror Antiochus Epiphanes in some ways also. Sacrificing at the table within the temple is one. He will help the Jews rebuild the temple on the mount, no doubt once opposition is dealt with. There's a group known as the Temple Mount Faithful who have a website and they've been parading the cornerstone to that same temple for the past year or so through the streets of Jerusalem. They've created all the outfits for the priests, tools and other tables that are required. All they need is for the Jewish government to give them the green light to begin. When Ariel Sharon took his walk on the temple mount - amongst thrown rocks from Palestinian rioters - he gave them a glimmer of hope that he may be the one to lead them. Every Jewish person had dreamed of that day so, it wouldn't be hard for the antichrist to gain their support.
Being a warmonger, I can see him being one of the bloodiest people that area has ever known. Hatred and anger among most of the Jewish people for their neighbors has only festered since they arrived in Palestine in the late 1800's. It's been hard for American politicians and diplomats to understand the people there for their memories are long and deep.
I had a discussion with a Muslim friend at work some time ago and he asked me who the land belonged to first. I told him that Palestine had intially belonged to a group of tribes before Abraham arrived and was promised everything he saw from the mountains near the city of A'i. Jerusalem at that time was ruled by Melchisedek, who was a faithful man of God and led the Jebusites. When the Israelites left Egypt, led by Moses, they were returning to a land full of idol worship and child sacrifices. No loss in God's eyes, regretfully. He finally gave up the argument after I told him that the Romans dispersed everyone in 120 AD and left the land to the poor which at that time were a large mix of various backgrounds.
The Jewish people have been waiting on their messiah and I believe will think him the one to re-establish their hereditary lands promised to Abraham and actually realized through King Solomon, then lost by his son's wars. Apparently, the antichrist will have some mastery of magic or a type of illusionary ability given to him by the devil. I'm wondering if his entrance will be grand to even 'sway the believers' into thinking it's Jesus. Ten nations or kings will join him during his short seven year reign. The first three-and-a-half years will be peaceful conquest, the remainder his bloody years fighting the saints during the Tribulation. Time will determine the details but, the ending is the same. He loses.

Re: Antichrist

One problem, of course, is that of time.  More specifically, when is the time of antichrist?  I used to believe that the book of Revelation spoke of times that were still to come, but now I'm not so sure.  There is still some question about when John wrote the book of Revelation, and some scholars think that it was written prior to - and, more importantly, about - the tribulation that Emperor Nero inflicted upon the first generation of Christians from A.D. 66 - 70.

It's still true that the ending is the same - God wins.  In many ways, whether we look for a future tribulation or back to an historical one is academic.  History is ultimately His Story, and has already been written.  We simply haven't lived through all of it yet.
